MedicalWhat Type of Insomnia Do You Have?
Lying awake for hours past your bedtime generally means you have insomnia. But this condition can make itself evident in various ways. Yes, you may have trouble falling asleep but some people have problems staying asleep or waking up too early. Here are some kinds of insomnia. Read on to know what type you have. Adjustment Insomnia This condition is also known as acute insomnia or short-term insomnia. It disturbs your sleep and is generally caused by stress. The sleep problem stops when the source of stress is eliminated or when you become accustomed with the stress. The stress does not necessarily mean negative experience. It can also be something positive which can make you too excited to sleep well. Idiopathic Insomnia This is a lifelong sleep disorder that begins during infancy or childhood and keeps on going into adulthood. The cause cannot be explained since it does not result from the usual causes of insomnia. The only ground that experts can think of is an imbalance in your body, such as an overactive awakening system and/or an underactive sleep system. If they are made to go to bed at a particular time, they are more likely to fall asleep at the right hour and have less sleep troubles when they grow old. But if they don’t have a specified bedtime, then they may remain awake for hours at night, thereby causing onset of insomnia during childhood. Psychophysiological Insomnia This has been connected to too much worrying, particularly focused on not being able to go to sleep. The condition may start suddenly after an event or just develop gradually over many years. People with psychophysiological insomnia worry too much about their own insomnia or about being tired the next day. They become very tense and anxious every time bedtime draws near. They may have racing thoughts that all relate to insomnia and trying to fall asleep as much as they want to. As they worry so much about falling asleep, they become more and more tense, making them less likely to be able to fall asleep. You can talk about... What Type of Insomnia Do You Have?
