After the device was implanted, the paralyzed man can now stand on his own and bear weight for 20 minutes at a time. With the same training he did for 2 years, he did not need the help of therapist to move his legs as he could make repeated stepping motion on his own, as well as moving his toes, ankles, knees, and hips voluntarily. Apart from the movement improvements, several types of autonomic functions like bladder, bowel control and as well as temperature regulation. But turning the stimulation off also terminates his voluntary control over his lower limbs.

The researchers are not yet solid on what is happening to summers and how all of this has been achieved. They think that the stimulation may have reactivated the connections that were dormant or stimulated new connections. It appears to them that neural pathways above and below the site of injury may have been reorganized with the stimulation.

Summer's condition after the accident is also noted. He had some sensation in his lower extremities after the injury which mean that spinal cord was not completely damaged.

The same team plan replicate the results and the procedure on five other patients. For them, the result they got from summers are encouraging but they know they should be cautions and much works is still needed.

The promising success of Summer’s case is a positive start and gives hope to those that are still strapped to their wheel chairs. All hopes for the researcher that they complete their quest on liberating those paralyzed people back to walking on their own.
